I have begun the difficult task of ranking my favorite movies, and I have decided to split them by genre for several reasons. The most important though is that I have a hard time judging genres against one another. I will try to put out 1 list per week starting with my top 75 Comedies. Ranked according to my own tastes which empasized uncontrollable laughter, repeat value, and quotability.I made a deliberate effort not to throw movies on just because I am supposed to as a "critic" (I use that so loosely). And I had no qualms with having some classics not make the list or ride lower than the AFI would like. But I feel like I missed some very important movies that I would have wanted on here so I may make amendments if someone posts something I forgot. So feel free to comment on the list, although don't get too caught up in the placement of the movies at the bottom because I could move them up and down all day.

Reading the list I come away with a few lessons.
1. Romantic Comedies not starring John Cusack or Billy Crystal are largely absent.
2. I have very few movies pre-1975 i.e 6 years before I was born
3. I'm not a huge Woody Allen Fan, since he failed to chart (but would likely be on my 100 list.)
4. Bill Murray stars in numbers 9-12. 4 in a row. And would likely battle Steve Martin, Billy Crystal, and Will Ferrell for the most appearances on my list.
5. Very few comedies starring women, and I can't think of any to add.
Nice job Dean. Except for A Fish Called Wanda, in the top 20?!! I guess I just really don't like Jamie Lee Curtis. And where's So I Married An Axe Murderer? I know I've heard you quote it many times. I'm glad you have two Wes Anderson films in your top 15. Though my favorite Wes Anderson film is Bottle Rocket. Burn. I totally forgot So I married an Ax murderer. And I will likely be changing the list to a top 100 because I also forgot Strange Brew, Revenge of the Nerds, Major League, Ace Ventura, Big, Back to School, My Blue Heaven, The Big Lebowski, Wayne's World, Get Shorty, and Bruce Almighty among others.
Also in defense of the 40 year old Virgin, I have been criticized for having a "vulgar" pick in my top 5. I felt that the content of the movie was useful to the plot more than just being gratuitous and it was usually looked down upon within the context of the movie. Useless vulgarity kept several movies from making the list like Kingpin, and Me, Myself and Irene despite having many hilarious sequences.
I will likely edit this list next week after further contemplation, and also list my Action List.
